Along with Charles Preston, identified the body of Elizabeth Stride at the mortuary on the morning of 1st October 1888. A coal heaver residing at 15 Wood Street, Spitalfields, he recognised Stride from his days as a lodger at 32 Flower and Dean Street.

He was also present when Annie Farmer was having her throat wound dressed by Dr. George Bagster Phillips following the attack on her at 19 George Street on 21st November 1888.[1]
